Norah Jones
Norah Jones is just amazing.
First of all she can really sing. Beautiful timing, dynamics, pace, texture. She mixes Jazz and Country vocal styles – annoying Jazz purists – but to those unconfined by those ideas, her style is unique, felt & entrancing. Her voice gets inside you and relaxes you from the feet up.
Norah Jones has a voice that would be enough by itself, but then she plays piano. Very well. The piano arrangements she plays are gorgeous. Is she playing a Steinway D Grand Piano? I think so – a rich, but not overpowering tone. I heard the recording engineers got a Grammy for one of her albums.
Her song choices are great. They’re rich songs, evocative, often wise. I wonder if she has a musical mentor, because in half a lifetime, I haven’t found songs as great as these, even with all the world’s music downloads for free.
And she’s only 31. I can’t even imagine how she might get better.
