Roger Waters (Pink Floyd)

Roger WatersHere on Erebus Music we honor amazing musicians. It is often difficult to consider a musician outside of the group they performed with, but we still like to honor them individually.

One of the more famous names to come from the group Pink Floyd is that of Roger Waters. After the departure of Syd Barrett (due to deteriorating mental and physical health) following the first album, Roger took over as front man and would provide song writing, singing, and guitar during his time with the band, lasting from 1965 to 1983. During this time Waters would write or co-write most of the band’s material. It was the 1973 album Dark Side of the Moon that would skyrocket the band’s fame and success, much to the responsibility of Waters, who reportedly wrote all the lyrics and most of the music.

He also was the machine behind classic albums like Wish You Were Here, and of course, The Wall. If you don’t own these albums, you can download music off them online to understand the talent Roger Water’s possesses. The last album he would write material for with Pink Floyd titled The Final Cut, was written entirely by him and released in 1983. Two years later, Roger would leave the band for good to pursue his solo career.

He has released 8 albums since his departure from Pink Floyd, including The Pros and Cons of Hitch Hiking, and a release of The Wall: Live in Berlin. As amazing of an artist that he is, I don’t think Roger has received the acceptance and fame as a individual artist as he deserved.

In 2006, Roger started a Dark Side of the Moon tour over 2 years across Europe and America. This was extremely successful and has thus prompted another tour this year which has set dates across Canada, the United States, Mexico, as well as European countries including Italy, Netherlands, UK, Germany, Poland, and more.
